Description
It's Christmas time in the city. A number of guests have been invited to the lair for a big holiday feast. But, where's Michelangelo? Mikey is playing Santa Claus - a butt-kicking, hard-driving Santa who's trying to save a truckload of toys destined for an orphanage from some heartless thieves.

2 out of 5 stars Only paid five bucks but still feel let down   December 18, 2008
The Grumpy Hacker (Top 5000 Reviewer)
I've wanted to see the Michaelangelo Christmas special for years, so this December when I saw it on Amazon for about five bucks I pulled the trigger. Unfortunately the Christmas "special" isn't any longer than a regular episode, about twenty minutes. It was entertaining--Mikey is my favourite after all--but I already have the other three "bonus" episodes on DVD (see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Box Set #1; Volumes 1 - 4)). This just isn't even worth getting comfortable in front of the TV for...

3 out of 5 stars Essential for a complete collection   August 10, 2007
Robert K. Patterson (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., USA)
Out of all the episodes, only one, Michelangelo's Christmas Rescue, is unique. The other episodes appear on some of the very first DVD releases. However, if you are into the Xmas season, this is a very good episode. I just wonder why they packaged it this way.

5 out of 5 stars Very good X-mas ep!   December 18, 2004

I love the new TMNT cartoon, it's the best! So when I heard that the animation company was going to spoil us and release the x-mas ep on dvd early, I was very happy! I got a few days after its release, and being the impatient little brat that I am, couldn't resist watching it right away.

I loved it! Beautiful animation, Mikey centered, and just overall good! After many fangirl squeals of joy, most likely making my parents think I'm nuts, I watched it again!

Then I decided (considering I'm 18 and should have SOME form of willpower by now) to wait until Thanksgivings weekend before popping in that dvd in again. It was worth the wait!

What I'm saying is, I loved it!

While the other reviewer before me complained about the bonus eps, I was happy about them. I had been concerned that they were going to throw season 3 eps on it and mess up the ep order even more than they already have (Darn Funimations!). I was glad to see that it was just some eps from season one, including the first epsiode! This is good because the first dvd volume glitched on the first ep, very annoying, so now I have a dvd copy of that episode without any mess ups! ^-^

If you're a fan of the new toon, you should get this!

3 out of 5 stars only for the die-hard or new-fan...   November 30, 2004

and not much for the in-betweeners.

This is actually a fairly decent episode. An un-aired (as of yet) retelling of the classic Eastman and Laird "Michelangelo #1 micro-series"... i'm quite pleased to see Klunk (the cat) finally make his way into the new cartoon show. With the exception of the goofy "everyone's invited over for a feast" thing, this episode stays amazingly true to the comic... although, i doubt i'll ever take Silver Sentry seriously again, should he appear in later episodes. This episode is quite holiday-focused (as you probably gleaned from the title. heh)... and without prior awareness of the Mirage comics, you may think it's just another marketing ploy. And well... it sorta is clearly the timing is no mistake, nor is it's release directly to DVD in late October...

still though, it's the last of the "micro-series" comics to be recreated in the new cartoon, and i doubt i'm alone when i say that i was chewing at the bit, for this episode to finally see the light of day.

The down side, is that if you purchase this DVD, you're getting three other previously released episodes. that's... that's pretty lame right there. this is their idea of "special features" apparently, to give us nothing... and then buy us off with a few episodes we probably already have.

that being said however, i'm sure a bunch of you are like me, and gleefully plunked down another $15 - $20 bucks or so, just for a sense of completion (not to mention an episode none of us had seen yet). *sigh*... yeah, we're collectors... need i really say more?

Or, alternatively, if this is your first TMNT dvd, or it's for a kid'o with a green streak... i highly recommend it, as the three other episodes are actually fairly important plot-centric moments from the first season of the show. A good jumping on point, and a great way to introduce a whole new generation to the crack... er... hobby... no wait, um... innocent cartoon show, that no one would EVER obsess over and spend disgusting amounts of cash procuring anything with the logo... yeah... uh... let's just forget that last little bit and move on.

In short, and for those of you skimming:

-If you're an obsessive fan, you'll get it... you have no choice.
-If you're a new fan, or just want to present someone with a gift, i believe it would make an excellent choice.
-If you're in the middle there... not obsessed, but not largely unfamiliar, i don't think a single 24+ minute episode is worth the money you'll spend on it... i'm sure it'll air on Television soon.
